Stop Cleaning the Same Gutters Three Times a Year

If your property sits under mature maples, oaks or pines, you already know the pattern. The gutters get cleared in spring, fill again by June, and are packed solid by the time the leaves come down in October.
Gutter guard installation puts a physical barrier over your existing eavestrough so leaves, twigs, seed pods and roof grit have a much harder time getting inside. Water still gets in. The debris that causes the blockage mostly does not.
Next Gen Window Cleaning installs gutter guards on homes and properties throughout the Niagara Region, usually as part of the same visit as a gutter and eavestrough cleaning. If you are already booking the ladder work, adding guards while we are up there is the practical move.

Why property owners add guards
Fewer clogs between scheduled cleanings
Less debris reaching the downspouts
One trip up the ladder instead of two or three a year
Assessed against your actual roof and gutter setup, not a one-size recommendation
What the visit includes
Inspection of your existing gutters and roofline
Clearing of debris already sitting in the eavestrough
Guard installation matched to your gutter profile
Downspout check and flow test
Walkthrough of what to expect going forward

What Gutter Guards Actually Do

A gutter guard is a cover, mesh or screen fitted over the open top of your eavestrough. Rainwater passes through. Leaves, twigs and larger debris are meant to shed off the top and fall to the ground instead of settling in the channel.

The point is not a sealed system. The point is changing what ends up inside the gutter. Instead of a packed trough of wet leaves that has to be dug out by hand, you are dealing with a much smaller amount of fine material that clears far more easily.

That difference matters most on properties where the roofline sits under tree cover, and on two-storey or steep-pitch homes where getting up there is the hardest part of the job.

Benefits of Gutter Guards

Help Reduce Leaves and Debris

Gutter guards create a barrier over your gutters that helps keep leaves, twigs and other larger debris out.

Help Reduce Gutter Clogging

Less debris entering the gutter can mean fewer blockages and less frequent buildup.

Make Gutter Maintenance Easier

Gutter guards don't eliminate the need for gutter maintenance, but they can make keeping your gutter system clear easier over time.

Protect Your Gutter System

Keeping excessive debris from accumulating inside your gutters can help support proper water flow and reduce problems associated with clogged gutters.

Signs Your Property Is a Good Candidate

Gutter guards are worth looking at if you are regularly dealing with:

  • Gutters filling with leaves within weeks of a cleaning
  • Water spilling over the front edge of the eavestrough during heavy rain
  • Trees overhanging the roof directly
  • Downspouts backing up or running slow
  • Staining down the fascia or siding below the gutter line
  • Booking gutter cleaning more than twice a year
  • A roofline that is difficult or unsafe to access

Properties near the Escarpment and in the older tree-lined neighbourhoods around St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake tend to see the heaviest leaf load in the region.

Guards Reduce Maintenance, They Do Not End It

This is the honest part, and it is the thing most gutter guard marketing leaves out.

Fine material still gets through. Shingle grit, seeds, pollen, pine needles and dirt accumulate over time, and debris can build up on top of the guard itself if it is never cleared. Guards also do nothing for a gutter that is already pitched wrong or pulling away from the fascia.

Treat guards as a way to stretch the interval between cleanings and reduce how bad the buildup gets, not as a permanent fix. A periodic inspection keeps the system doing what it is supposed to do.

That is why guards pair with gutter and eavestrough cleaning rather than replacing it. If the fascia and soffit below the gutter line are showing staining or buildup, soffit and fascia cleaning handles that at the same time.

Gutter Guard Installation for Your Home

Every property is different. Roof design, gutter configuration, surrounding trees and the amount of debris your property receives can all affect whether gutter guards are a good fit.

Before installation, we can assess your existing gutter system and discuss your maintenance concerns.

Our goal is simple: help reduce gutter debris and make keeping your gutters maintained easier.

Clean First, Then Install

Guards should never go on over a dirty gutter. Anything sitting in the channel at installation is sealed in and becomes much harder to reach later. Our sequence is straightforward:

Tell us your property address, roughly how many storeys, and what the tree cover looks like. Photos of the roofline and gutters help us scope it accurately.

2

Assessment and clear-out

We inspect the gutter condition, pitch and fastening, then remove existing debris so the system starts clean.

3

Guard installation

Guards are fitted to your gutter profile, and downspouts are checked for flow before we leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are gutter guards?

Gutter guards are covers, mesh panels or screens installed over the open top of an eavestrough. They let rainwater into the gutter while helping keep leaves, twigs and larger debris out.

Do gutter guards mean I never have to clean my gutters again?

No. Guards reduce how much debris enters the gutter and how often blockages form, but fine material like shingle grit, seeds and pollen still gets through. Periodic inspection and cleaning is still part of maintaining the system.

Are gutter guards worth it?

They tend to make the most sense on properties with heavy tree cover, on multi-storey homes where access is difficult, and where gutters are being cleaned more than twice a year. On an open lot with little overhead debris, the case is weaker. We will tell you either way.

Should gutters be cleaned before guards are installed?

Yes, always. Installing over existing debris traps it inside the channel where it is much harder to remove. Cleaning and inspection should happen first.

Will guards stop my downspouts from clogging?

They reduce the volume of leaves and larger debris that can reach the downspout, which cuts down on blockages. They cannot guarantee a downspout will never back up.

Do gutter guards help with ice buildup?

Guards can reduce the debris that contributes to poor drainage in freeze and thaw conditions, but ice damming is driven mainly by roof heat loss and insulation. Guards are not an ice dam solution on their own.

Can guards be installed on any gutter?

Most standard residential eavestrough can accept guards, but gutter width, roof pitch and the condition of the existing system all factor in. A gutter that is sagging or improperly pitched should be addressed first.

I think this is our 5th year in a row using Next Gen and this crew is just incredible. Professional and clean they get the job done and clean up after themselves like they weren’t even there. My windows are so clean I can’t even tell they are there right now. They also cleaned out our gutters/ power washed our siding and did a certified spider spray which is necessary this close to Lake Ontario. Thanks for all the hard work and we will definitely be calling you again next time!

Ben, Mike and the rest of the NXT GEN team just did an incredible job cleaning the windows both inside and out, screens(!!!) as well as washing the siding on our 2 storey house. I was blown away by their professionalism and attention to little details like cleaning screen troughs. Great pricing too. After using "Paradisus" for the past few years we now say farewell "P" and hello NXT GEN. Thanks again.

My gutters which are too high for my confort level on a ladder were blocked. After an attempt at using a power washer attachment with no success I put in a request on Next Gen's website. Andrew replied withing minutes. That was a Thursday about 4pm. He was there for a quote the next morning on his way to another job. That was Friday. I was booked for the following Monday. That's today. It's 1 pm and the job is done! PERFECTLY clean, not a pebble out of place. Top shelf service! Pricing was super reasonable so I also had them clean the entire outer shell of the house, all soffits and aluminum, power wash the driveway, clean all the windows and do some ant and spider pest control. 2 men showed up on time and ready to work, Andrew being one of them (all owner operators - no temp kids who know nothing). I can not give a higher recomendation. Nick & Julie Sebastian
