This is the part that costs people money.
Construction residue is not soft. Mortar splash, silicone, dried paint and metal shavings from installation all sit hard on the surface. When someone attacks that with a dry blade, an abrasive pad or a scouring product, the residue gets dragged across the pane and the glass carries the marks permanently.
There is a second risk that most people have never heard of. Some tempered glass carries surface imperfections from the manufacturing process, called fabricating debris, that can leave scratch marks even under otherwise correct scraping technique.
